Rats and Mice

Common Pests

Sometimes, to solve the problem of rats and mice, it's as easy as using snap traps. But for many people, the thought of dealing with these silent animals is very uncomfortable. Rodents mature and breed rapidly and can quickly take over a structure, damaging plumbing and wiring from chewing, and insulation with urine and feces.

There is more to placing snap traps, as rodents were drawn to your premise and then found an entry point. All Pest Services will find out why and where they entered, and with minor repairs, help to solve the problem. Rats are easier to exclude because of their size, while mice only need small entry points and could prove harder to locate.

Carpenter Ants

Carpenter Ants can potentially damage any wooden structure. They do not consume wood but can carve out huge galleries for nesting sites and transportation paths, jeopardizing the integrity of the framing. They are normally a sign of moisture problems within the structure as the prefer water damaged wood. They tend to get between two surfaces and carve out voids to accommodate ever growing populations. They are also found in weight bearing floor beams and in the insulation of exterior walls, floors, above crawl spaces and attics.

When a nest gets too large, carpenter ants will branch off to create new nests close by. If left untreated your home can soon be inundated with ants which will disturb everyday activities and become very expensive to rectify.

Cluster Flies

Cluster Flies are one of the larger species of flies and they originate from fields and open spaces. Their wings overlap when resting. Every fall when the temperature starts to drop they find cracks in a structure to hibernate in.

They are called cluster flies because thousands will gather on the warmest side of a structure before entering for the winter. Many will find their way inside during the fall, and in spring when they wake up and leave for the summer, causing hardship for occupants.

Fleas

Fleas can become very uncomfortable. There are several stages in a flea's life cycle as they live and lay eggs in fabrics such as carpets. They are a solid bug and that can be easily detected on white clothing.

Silverfish

This prehistoric pest lives close to damp humid areas like plumbing and and are recently showing up in areas outside the home such as under shingles on roof tops. They feed off glues behind baseboards and materials like paper.

Other than eating pages out of a book, silverfish do not cause damage and are more of a nuisance.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches are usually brought into your home with groceries or furniture, as they are not native to the island they do not come in from outside. After being identified, cockroaches can be treated with bait around areas with high activity like plumbing and kitchen or bathroom cabinets.
